Picking the Location for Your Green Wedding by A.B.Monk

So you’ve finally decided to take the big leap and you want a green wedding. Now all you have to do is figure out where to start. Why not start with the venue?

“The location of your wedding is possibly the most important wedding decision you will make.”

The location of your wedding is possibly the most important wedding decision you will make. It sets the entire tone of your wedding. And it is often the most expensive element to your wedding. So, how do you make it as green as possible? By following these few simple guidelines, of course!

  • Choose a destination that is convenient to the most people. That way you cut down on travel times, and that saves a lot of energy. And your guests will definitely appreciate saving some money by not having to travel so far!
  • Choose an environmentally friendly location, such as a healthy restaurant, organic farm, or green hotel. That way you promote a healthier lifestyle and you take advantage of their green, environmentally friendly, atmosphere. And many such locations have greener buildings and power sources.
  • Do a little research and make sure your venue recycles. Composting would be a definite plus as well.
  • Have your wedding and reception in the same (environmentally friendly) place. Then no one has to bother packing up and moving somewhere else. I find most people prefer this any way. It’s so much more convenient. And often guests worry about getting lost if they are in an unfamiliar setting.
  • If it is impossible to have your wedding and reception in the same location, provide environmentally friendly transportation for your guests to the reception venue. There are agencies opening up all over the country that offer green mass transit. Do some research and find out what’s available in your neck of the woods.

By choosing your wedding location wisely, you could have a positive impact on the planet. Typically the venue is where the most waste occurs. Here are a couple locations I’ve found that would make an ideal green location for a wedding.

  • Seaport Hotel, Boston, MA. Has recently unveiled a green wedding package. Enjoy the history and sites of Boston while honoring your wedding and love of the environment. Perfect!
  • Denver Botanic Gardens, Denver, CO. One of the most beautiful cities in America could be the location of your green wedding! Just click on the site and look at the pictures, need I really say more?

If you’re interested in a green wedding, but you have no idea where to find a green venue, drop me a line and I’ll do a little research and get back to you with the perfect green wedding venue that’s closest to your location. Because what’s a green wedding without a green venue?
