Having a pet is a luxury and a privilege. They come into our lives, touch us deeply and intimately, and take over our world. And, really, how many of us would have it any other way? So this column is a discussion, a celebration, (and hopefully sometimes an educational experience) about the loves of our lives, our pets.

My history with animals (aside from having had pets and farm animals my entire life) ranges from working with the veterinarian school at the University of Tennessee, to interning with the bird department at the Knoxville zoo, to working as a keeper at Tiger Haven Big Cat Sanctuary. Animals are my passion in life, past, present, and future. In the future I intend to finish up a masters (or doctorate) in Biology and work extensively with conservation, focusing primarily on animals (of course.) Ideally, I want to start an animal rescue much like Black Beauty Ranch in Texas. It’s a slow and legalistic process, but I’ll get there.

With this column I want to answer your questions (should you have any) and discuss different interesting tidbits about having pets and being a pet owner. And I’d love to share funny stories, because I know we all have them. Our pets are our babies and everything they do is cute (or if not cute, still worthy of telling absolutely everyone we know about what they did and our thoughts and feelings on it!) So please send me emails about what you would like to see here. Ask questions, share stories, vent, whatever you feel like.
