I’m all about Coffee-Table type books. When the holidays roll around, it’s one of the things I shop for when I’m looking for gifts for friends and families. I know it’s a little early for some of us to think about holiday shopping, but if you know an art lover that would appreciate not just the ART but also the story behind the art, consider Natural Affinities.
Though contemporaries, most people don’t know that Georgia O’Keeffe and Ansel Adams were also friends. The book is a lovely comparison and contrast of two amazing artists who were both attracted to the beautiful and rugged American Southwest. The book showcases the talents and gives us an amazing contrast / comparison of similar landscapes. Viewed separately, each artist is truly a treasure, but the ability to see their works side by side is truly a gift. For any lover of art or the American Southwest, this is a fabulous gift. And while you are shopping, don’t forget to pick up a copy for yourself!
If you happen to be in Washington DC, the American Art Museum has a special exhibit of the same name. I was fortunate to have the book first, and then share in the rich details of the photographs of Adams and the paintings of O’Keeffe. The exhibit will be in DC until January 4, 2009.
