In the mood for a little black comedy? Then this is the movie for you.
Death at a Funeral is quintessentially English in terms of its humour and cast. The title alone sounds morose and depressing, yet it’s anything but that. Okay, so the premise is a tad macabre but this charming little comedy is well worth watching.
Directed by Frank Oz, the story is centred on the death of a family patriarch who leaves behind a grieving widow, two adult sons and a whole lot of drama. The funeral service is held at the family home, and is intended to be a dignified affair. But when cousin Martha’s new fiancé accidentally takes acid (thinking it is Valium), things take a hilarious turn for the worst. And that’s the least of their worries as a shocking family scandal comes to light – and all hell breaks loose.
This wonderfully off-beat movie boasts a fantastic cast which includes Matthew Macfadyen, Rupert Graves, Alan Tudyk, Daisy Donovan, Jane Asher and Peter Dinklage (whom you may remember from Nip Tuck). Prepare for the unexpected in Death at a Funeral, and enjoy. It’s definitely worth watching.
