Allotment Bounty by Penny Luker
We joined our neighbours for a feast
to celebrate natures yearly gifts
and ate homemade carrot soup.
Large jacket potatoes filled plates,
decorated with sweet tomatoes,
and topped with fresh crisp coleslaw.
The sun stayed up late warming us
and pale elderberry wine cleared minds
while garden chatter murmured.
Plump fresh strawberries brought delight
and each neighbour was amply mellowed
by the allotment bounty.
