Enough by Carmen Eichman
I am learning to cultivate the art
of nothing,
to be still as a chandelier pendant
in its crystal beauty
and know I, too, am lovely in the sunlight of being.
I cannot keep back the weeds, some good, some not
of nuances and negotiations
between greed and global leaders,
the disparity between wealth and poverty in
growing capitalistic India,
that China is Starbuck’s second largest customer next to the U.S.,
that Ahmadinejad won’t be shaken from his Old Testament beliefs
and view that the U.S. is a hypocritical whore.
Irrigated by the media and self-proclaimed intellectuals,
I do not want this on my epithet: knowledge of pertinent, yet useless facts.
Though at times I bow to inappropriate altars,
I am, that’s all, is enough.
It is, thank God, enough
despite my daily submersion
or is it a drowning
in this field of information and opinion.
