Knock on the doorby Patricia Wellingham-Jones
A clang on the metal trout
nailed to our wooden door
snaps me to attention
You bring us tomatoes
from your September garden
and a few burgundy cockscombs
clutched in your large male hand
You feel bad that both are late
and smaller than they should be
We both know
nature does what she wants
and all seasons end
