All Things Girl - Created by Women, For Women

Writings

After a late night buzz by Kathy Nguyen

I slept in twisted (music) sheets,
scrambled synapses
of not so sunny side up eggs,
between tosses in the sea
and turns
through Dali’s clock desert,
hugging myself
to keep from falling,
crumbling
into the hot white sand
of my dreams.

On this chilly morning,
I tasted the bittersweet sting
of an anklet of ant bites,
of my sweaty rosary beads
wrapped around my neck,
of the honey
in my jasmine green tea–
the memory
of knee-length gray hair,
of a thousand hums
and a thousand grains
held gingerly in my grandmother’s
straw-colored cone hat she had once forgotten
in the summer rice fields.

Now,
I find her face
darting in and out
like sparrows playing with shadows
among the melon vines,
her smiles whenever she placed
a jade orb of this melon sweetness in our arms–
everything glowing softly in the fog
outside my window,
even these sharp edges of my heart.

Kathy Nguyen goes by A~Lotus or Ambiguitylotus online. She has been writing poetry since 7-8 years old but seriously worked on it since high school. She loves not only looking for patterns and symbolism when it comes to writing poetry but also in every single connection, thing, and person in her life. She aspires to go to nursing school and get a doctorate degree and believes that everything happens for a reason, including using art for therapy (and for keeping sanity!) and as a form of expression as well as to complement her love for science.
